Some reviews of books I've and/or found to be very useful

These are some book reviews I've done for publication or pleasure!

I've just finished reading a couple of excellent books that are well worth reading by all!

Firstly Joe Navarro's "What every body is saying". This is a really good overview of body language. Virtually every page contains a nugget about how our posture indicates our feelings. One of the nice things about the book is that Joe emphasises the fact that you need to calibrate people's body language and that you look for differences rather than just assuming. As an interesting aside he talks about hands and lower body movement giving away information and the difficulty of having a desk between people (especially in a law enforcement environment that Joe comes from) and i noticed on a recent episode of "Lie to me" that the desks in the fictional body language institute were all see through!

The other book that is a gold mine of "self help" information is Richard Wiseman's ":59 seconds, think a little, change a lot". This is a very good overview of some motivational tools and techniques supported by research. He also debunks quite a few urban myths round self help statements etc. and provides real evidence to support the suggestions he makes.  This book covers much of the same ground as his earlier book (Quirkology) and you probably either need to read them some time apart so one re-inforces the other or only read one.
