This longitudinal research projects investigates, from a constructivist perspective, the impact on individuals construct systems (or mental maps) as part of a major outsourcing initiative.  The research follows the creation, and first couple of years, of a jointly owned HR dedicated service provision company.  This new company was formed by the outsourced HR department of a major manufacturing company being TUPE’d into a venture capital funded start-up companyA two-phase Repertory Grid study investigated employees’ individual perception of the new organisation and their anticipation of the future.  Phase 1 occurred within three months of the launch date of the new company and phase 2 one year after the launch.  Those areas focused on included, the new organisation, those HR people left in the parent company as well as the self, ideal self and ideal HR.The results indicated that, whilst individuals had subtly different construct maps, they did share some common constructs and themes.  These were around the goals, aims, vision and roles/responsibilities within the new organisation.  Another key finding was the importance during the change process of clear, concise and above all regular communication.
